The day everything changed, was in the beginning like every other day.
Rusty Springfield was sitting at the bar, drinking his beer with his bandmates and his motorcycle gang.
Life was good now, he got out of the supermax prison just a few weeks ago.
He got lucky he got out because it was too crowded and his sentence this time had not been too severe.
He had done almost the same thing from the first day he got out. He spent the days riding his motorcycle in Manhattan,
and his nights drinking beer and listening to good music.
This was life, just as Rusty liked it because you never know what day could be your last.
The dark bar smelled like cheap beer and various alcoholic beverages.
There were no windows and the only light in the bar was from the small light fixtures and the small TV over the bar, which played the news.
The booths were placed on the opposite the bar.
The music, was always louder than the TV.
Rusty looks up at the TV from time to time while sipping at the beer. Just when he looks up the news he sees
"BREAKING NEWS! Several people running around Manhattan attacking people".
Apparently from what he could see, they believed a new drug was the cause of this.
To be completely honest, at that moment Rusty did not care.
That changed quickly when Rusty heard a ruckus from outside of the bar. He looked towards the door when he saw a fellow customer burst through the door. Rusty could clearly see something was not completely right with that man anymore,
and not only because he was bleeding from his shoulders.
The man started to run towards Rusty. He heard a loud bang and the man fell towards the floor right in front of him.
There was no mistake in what had caused that damage and that sound. The bar manager's shotgun that he had behind his bar.
Rusty was still sitting on his chair by the bar and looked down at the man, but was it even a man anymore?
He had seen many wounded and many dead people before,
so it was not why he was stunned by this event but his realization that this was not drug-induced.
He kept looking at the body for what seemed like hours, but it could just have been a few minutes.
The sound that the shotgun made had attracted more of those whatever they were.
They came running through the broken door into the bar and jumped
on the bar manager, tearing him apart so quickly that no one had the time to react.
His shotgun was beside him. Rusty acted quickly, his survival instincts kicked in and he picked up the shotgun. Rusty and his bandmates ran out the backdoor to the parking lot where their bikes were standing ready for them.
